Introduction

"Fiddle" n.- The colloquial term for the violin, the smallest member of the violin family, descended from the ancient viol family of bowed stringed instruments.

This section of the Archive includes biographical notes on some of the North East's best known fiddle players along with information on, and examples of, the dance tunes and airs that are so much a part of our musical culture.
