[Guitar, drum.]

[La la chorus.]

Setting sun is bleeding westwards, 'cross the perfect sky
Daughter opened wide the window, saw the minstrel passing by
Father ??? called him in to play for us tonight
I fret alone in solitude I need to feel the light
Music makes the very shadows bright

Like a bloody ??? she laughed and cried by turn
She touched him in the secret dusk where the failing embers burn
When at last the night was o'er she led him to the stairs
She said, sweet minstrel share my bed, we'll make sweet music there
Sweet music never ever was so fell

Oh and when the morning it did come, he went to take his leave
Oh my heart, my love, he said, you'll have no cause to grieve
I'll cross the wide and stormy seas, to chase this ??? of mine
But I'll be welcome home again, ??? sleeping time

And when the earl had passed and gone and he did sing no more
He harboured like a homing bird outside his lady's door
Welcome in the father cried, since you have been away
And come and greet my daughter dear, it is her wedding day
Oh Lord Oh Lord it is her wedding day

When the minstrel saw his love, his heart tore in his side
For a stranger in the bridegroom's coat had claimed her for his bride
Welcome in, the bridegroom said, and then our voices roar
And silent off the minstrel went, nor shall do ever more
The poor heart feels a stabbing thing so sore

Oh curses on you Lady Day, and curses on you Lord
And curses on a driving pain that drives men to their swords
Curses on the minstrel ?? whose ???? shall ????
And curses on the secret dusk where the failing embers burn
To leave you now and never to return

[Flute, guitar, drums.]

Can we have all the Banff and Buchan mob up. Just before we kind of end the night, I'd like to thank all the visiting artists who have performed tonight, Buchan Heritage Society, Fyvie Folk Club, Longside Folk Club, and guests of Banff and Buchan District Council, and Sheila MacDonald for being brave enough to compere tonight. I hope another muckle mingle will take place in the future. I'm not sure if any of the complete mental cases that they've met over the weekend they would actually like down in Banff and Buchan.

Just before all the visiting musicians get back up on stage, and do a completely impromptu encore (laughs), yes she's practised five days getting an impromptu encore together. Just before they do that I'd just like to thank all the local musicians and all the helpers who have worked over the weekend to get the muckle mingle together. Now if you clap really loudly you'll get the impromptu encore (clapping).
